Meet Scott

Scott, who specialises in equipment, posture and mobility, shares what makes Ability WA a great place to work.

Clinical Lead at AbilityTECH

Say hello to some of our amazing, hard-working

supported employees

Meet James

James entered the DES program as a very young shy, not-at-all-confident man, thinking that getting a job that he would enjoy was way out of the question.  He had a lot of barriers that made the idea of achieving his goal a long way off in his mind.

With a look into his background and understanding these barriers, the team in the Ability WA DES Program have been able to find him not only a job, but a career in the field he used to have as a hobby.

He required constant support for the first part of his role but as he felt more stable in the position to the point ongoing support was not required as often. James has done so well now that he is now an independent worker and no longer needs DES support.

Meet Seb

During work experince placements Seb sampled a range of workplaces: Bunnings, Workpower, on a golf course and eventually, Goodwill Engineering.

Seb was employmed by Goodwill Engineering after his work experience and it’s easy to see why!

An Ability WA Connect with Heart Award winner and described by all as a fast learner and natural leader, Seb has thrived at Goodwill Engineering.

After mastering the machines, Seb began teaching new starters himself! He has flourished as mentor and mediator to his colleagues.

Seb is frequently the first to step in when someone is having trouble and ensures everyone has an all-important cup of tea when needed!

He says of the best things about working at Goodwill for is the multiple friendships he’s made there. In his spare time Seb enjoys catching a movies or chatting about footy with his work friends.

Although Seb describes himself as not naturally confident, he attributes his growing confidence to the support he’s received and opportunities to expand his skills and master his role.

Naturally, Seb’s next chapter will see him moving into open employment in the future so he can continue his inspiring journey.
